Samsung unveils Galaxy S5 smartphone

In exciting news for smartphone enthusiasts, Samsung has announced the fifth generation of its Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S5, which is to be made available for purchase in April.

Speaking about the new device, Simon Stanford – vice-president of the IT and mobile division for Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland – explained how the tech giant has gone "back to basics" with the handset.

In line with current mobile tech trends among consumers, Mr Stanford explained how the new smartphone will "focus on the features and things that matter the most to our customers – namely the camera, ability to view and download data and content quickly and their health and wellbeing".

Accordingly, the new Galaxy S5 will have a better camera, quicker network connectivity, dedicated fitness tools and enhanced security features, consisting of a fingerprint scanner that affords the phone's owner a safe screen locking feature that is uniquely programmed to the user.

Clumsier consumers will be pleased to learn the phone will be not only water-resistant, but also protected from dust damage. Meanwhile, those who are more concerned with the overall look of their device will have the choice of picking between four eye-catching colours- charcoal black, shimmery white, electric blue and copper gold.

Another key feature will be the Ultra Power Saving Mode, which aims to reduce battery consumption whenever possible. When activated, the display will switch from colour to a black and white mode, while the phone will also shut down all apps and programs that are not being used, in order to reduce how much power is consumed.

Nevertheless, no matter how committed you may be switching on power saving modes, technology has not advanced quite enough to obviate the need for charging devices in their entirety.

Therefore, for when your smartphone finally does run out of juice, Energenie sells a range of smartphone accessories, including chargers, that can be used on your current device – and the Galaxy S5, when it comes out!
